Our London Marathon runners went the distance!

Back in autumn 2024, we were thrilled to secure two charity places for the 2026 London Marathon through the charity bond scheme. We also have places in future London Marathons up to 2029. Race day this year was 26th April and we're pleased to say our two runners completed the course. This is the first time we have had runners in the London Marathon and every penny raised will help us bring smiles to disadvantaged children across the borough.

We’re incredibly grateful to have had two fantastic supporters, George and Conal, run for us. They both completed the 26 miles despite warm sunshine on the day. They have raised over £4,000 so far, but they want to raise as much as possible for Reading Family Aid, so please still consider supporting them.

George Kelleher
George grew up in Reading and ran his first ever marathon to give back to the community that raised him. He joined us during Toy Week last December, bringing brilliant energy.
"Reading is full of people from all walks of life, and there's a strong sense of community that quietly supports those who need it most", George says, "That’s why I’ve decided to combine my dream of running the London Marathon with my desire to give something back to the town that raised me."

Conal McLean
This year, we unwrapped something truly special for the London Marathon… Conal turned up as a fully-wrapped present. Yes - ribbons, bows, questionable aerodynamics and all. Because nothing says “support local families” quite like a giant gift sprinting 26.2 miles through London. Conal says: "it's a privilege to run for this cause... and if you can support me with a donation, that will keep me going when stopping seems easier and the chafing takes hold".

A huge thank you to Conal and George - and to everyone donating and who cheered them on!
