On Wednesday 10th September, Wendy Howell, Reading Family Aid committee member took possession of 300 "Back to School Packs", kindly put together and donated by staff from Avantor. The packs contained coloured pencils, rulers, stickers and sets of pens. Avantor is a global provider of products and services to the life sciences and advanced technology industries. They have a key site in Theale, Reading, specialising in chromatography. Below: Emily, David and Brenden making the donation. Wendy was then able to donate the packs to the children of Geoffrey Fields Junior school. The photo shows members of the school council receiving them. They were very excited. Headteacher, Rebecca Brown, said it was a really lovely thing to do and the children would appreciate the items, whether they were used in class or taken home. Avantor has supported RFA in the past and looks forward to doing so again at this year's Toys and Teens Appeal. We thank Avantor for their generous donation, and look forward to working with them again soon!
We are thrilled to announce that Reading Family Aid have been successful in the 2026-2029 London Marathon New Charity Bond Scheme ballot and have been allocated two charity places starting in 2026. This incredible opportunity allows us to raise vital funds to support disadvantaged children and families in the Reading area. We’re excited to be part of one of the world’s most iconic races and look forward to supporting our runners as they take on this challenge. We're delighted to introduce our first runner, George, who will be representing Reading Family Aid in the 2026 London Marathon. Born and raised in Reading, George is combining his lifelong dream of running the marathon with a heartfelt mission to give back to the community that shaped him. George was inspired to support Reading Family Aid after learning about our work helping disadvantaged children and families across the Reading area. From Christmas toy distributions to fun family outings, our charity brings joy to those who need it most - and George is determined to help us continue that mission. We’re proud to have George running for us and grateful for his passion, energy, and commitment. You can read his story and support his fundraising efforts here:
